Which is best Google Home vs Amazon Alexa?
Amazon over the years have dominated the e-reader market with their Kindle and now are starting to make waves in the smart devices market with Alexa which followed from their Amazon Echo which really kickstarted the journey into the smart device sector.
ZDNet published an interesting report that looked at the functionality of each of the smart devices - Google Home and Amazon Alexa. One key thing that they noted was when the smart home speakers were asked separate questions, it was surprising how different their responses were and more importantly how their sources differed too.
How smart speakers are meant to work is to be asked a question and then retrieve their answer from a pre-installed database. An example is that Google Home would more than likely look to Google's Knowledge Graph to search for a reply to a specific question when asked. In the case of the Amazon Alexa, the smart speaker would in comparison turn to a third-party source to gain the answer.
What the tests did reveal is what happened with the smart home devices did not understand a specific question.
The smart devices would present two possibilities - either a person would receive no response or the wrong answer would be provided altogether. This can be frustrating but expected nonetheless.
It was concluded however, that both were great devices. It was found that Google Home took a far lesser time to respond to questions compared to the Amazon Alexa. It is stated in the report by ZDNet that the in fact the Google Home answered three times more questions than the Amazon Alexa which would make a big difference. In terms of accuracy, the Amazon Alexa answered eighty-six per cent of questions right which is behind the Google Home that answered eighty-nine percent right. In real terms, they both the smart devices come packed with the an equal amount of features and are priced at a similar level.
