Delays again - Apple's Smart Speaker
The much awaiting release of Apple's HomePod smart speaker is delayed now until 2018.
The new device was meant to be released in December, in time for Christmas, but the technology giant has just delayed the release stating there is still much needed development work to be completed. The latest statement came that the HomePod would be ready to go onto the shelves in the US, UK and Australia - early 2018. Good news for Amazon and Google as this would be a direct rival for their smart speakers.
Apple unveiled the HomePod earlier this year in June when they announced that it would go on sale in the UK for about ?350. Designed as a competitor to the smart speakers on offer from Amazon's Echo and Google's Assistant and also to recent additions from Sonos and Microsoft.
Just as the other products it is designed as a hands-free helper letting you set timers, maintain shopping lists and get reports for the weather and news, as well as play music of course.
Since the announcement from Apple both Amazon and Google have added new models to their range of smart speakers, trying to keep close the competition that will come from Apple's HomePod.
