The Hustle – Film Review

Starring Rebel Wilson as Penny and Anne Hathaway as Josphine - they are two strong female con artists who’s aim is to swindle men who underestimate them. Their teamwork quickly turns to rivalry as they focus their attention to a loveable new target to win a substantial cash reward – here enters Alex Sharp as Thomas, a young tech billionaire.

The film has all the elements to be a great film but unfortunately it just doesn’t quite get there. The acting doesn’t convince that they are two strong women with a clear goal but instead delivers a less than expected performance from Rebel Wilson and a far too dramatical approach from Anne Hathway – both a bit of a let-down. Following in the footsteps of successful films – Bedtime Story from 1988 and then the subsequent remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels – the film just doesn’t make the mark in creating what the film sets out to do – portray women as strong and funny and the jokes just don’t create the humour intended.
