Yamaha humanoid motorcycle-riding robot

Yamaha has revealed its new humanoid motorcycle-riding robot at the Tokyo Motor Show. Its goal is to beat MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi. Yamaha claim it will eventually be able to ride an unmodified motorbike on a race track at more than 124mph.

In a video produced by Yamaha, the Motobot is seen tapping the clutch, twisting the throttle and cruising around an abandoned airfield.

"The task of controlling the complex motions of a motorcycle at high speeds requires a variety of control systems that must function with a high degree of accuracy," said Yamaha.

"We want to apply the fundamental technology and know-how gained in the process of this challenge to the creation of advanced rider safety and rider-support systems and put them to use in our current businesses, as well as using them to pioneer new lines of business."

In the video, Motobot tells MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi (known as "The Doctor") in a creepy child-like voice: "I was created to surpass you".

"I am improving my skills every day but I am not sure I could even beat the five-year-old you. Perhaps if I learn everything about you, I will be able to catch up," it says.
